About This Feature

This page turns your image into a pencil sketch online — easily and for free.

The default settings produce a well-tuned result in one click, but you can also adjust the following options.

Touch:
Choose between "Detailed" and "Rough". "Detailed" gives you a realistic, carefully rendered drawing with fine detail. "Rough" gives you a loose, spontaneous look, as if the sketch were dashed off with a few quick pencil strokes.

Pencil Color:
Real pencils come in many grades of darkness, such as HB and 2B. Here you can pick how dark a pencil to draw with, intuitively, from a color picker.

Outline Weight:
Set how strongly the subject's outlines are drawn. At 0, no outlines are drawn at all and the texture is expressed by shading alone. Weaker outlines look more realistic; stronger outlines look more like a drawing.

Render Paper Texture:
To make it unmistakable that the sketch is drawn on real drawing paper, the paper grain can be baked into the image as a texture. It is on by default, but you can turn it off. Raising the "Brightness" value also lightens the paper color slightly.

Brightness:
Adjust the strength of the light falling on the whole scene — much like adjusting the exposure on a camera. Automatic adjustment is also available.

Contrast:
Raising the contrast sharpens the difference between light and shadow, giving the drawing a strong sense of depth. Lowering it creates a softer impression, as if lit by gentle, diffused light. Automatic adjustment is also available.

Shading Priority:
Choose which criterion drives the shading, and by how much. Prioritize "Color Intensity" for a drawing whose original colors you can still imagine, or "Light Intensity" for one that conveys how the light falls. By default, both are weighted equally.

With these settings, you can turn your photo into a pencil sketch that is truly your own. After converting, you can compare the before and after images. Anyone can create a beautiful pencil sketch from a photo in just a few clicks.
